December 9, 2015, during our holiday lunch celebration being held in the cafeteria at Eaton Crouse-Hinds in Syracuse, NY, union brother James Webb collapsed.  Three Union Members who are members of our Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT) immediately reacted and begin to evaluate the situation, started performing CPR and grabbed the AED. The AED was used four times on Brother Webb while he was still in the cafeteria and when the Rescue squad from Mattydale Fire Department arrived with the Navac Ambulance crew they continued to perform CPR and use the AED. Brother Webb was transported to the hospital and the outlook was bleak, if not for the quick and efficient response of the MERT team Brother Webb wouldn’t have survived. He did survive and the following Union members were credited with saving his life.  Brother Lawrence Judkins, Brother Robert Smith, and Sister Chrishell Steward received one of the highest honor presented by the IBEW, the IBEW Life Saving Award as well as a Life Saving Award from the Eaton Corporation.
